Let attention be at a place where you are seeing some past happening, and even your form, having lost its present characteristics, is transformed.
- Each night before sleep, replay the day BACKWARD — from this moment back to the first waking moment — never forward (morning to evening). Each event runs like a film; the ‘you’ in the scene is your past FORM, not the witness watching it. Do not re-anger at the afternoon’s insult, do not re-elate at the praise — that form has already gone; re-reacting means re-identifying.
- Backward is essential: going forward re-emphasizes and deepens the grooves; backward unwinds, purges, erases — like a tape run in reverse. Reaching the first moment a psychosomatic complex formed dissolves it (deep catharsis). The mind resists (it knows only forward, and will secretly flip to going forward again — catch it); train it first by counting 100 down to 1.
- Morning too: before opening the eyes, go backward through the night. After about three months of both practices, dreaming largely ceases — dreams exist only to complete unfinished/recorded desires, and conscious unwinding does that job instead. Sleep turns meditative: deep rest with no unconsciousness (the marker — awake while others sleep).
- Extended practice: on a fasting, silent, solitary day, unwind the WHOLE life backward. Break through the memory-block at age three-to-five; then the womb’s nine months (the mother’s depression, anger, joy were all yours — you were that one with her); then the moment of entering the womb; then the previous death; then all past lives.
- Culminating insight: across many lives the SAME pattern repeats — identical format, only details differ (a different woman, different coins, same nonsense). Seeing this, the whole thing suddenly becomes a dream and you are thrown out of it. Desire stops — desire is only past experience seeking to repeat itself into the future; past and future dissolve together, and transformation happens in that disappearance.
- Transfer to the present: start with the past because it is dead and there is space to stand aloof; the live present is at first too urgent and near. Once you can watch yesterday’s insult without anger, you can watch today’s AS IT HAPPENS — anger requires identification, witnessing dissolves the identification, so anger becomes impossible.
- Q&A (Q2) — aim decides depth: the same unwinding can stop at merely quieting the mind (a silence with the mind still there, only slowed) or go all the way to transcending mind (a silence where mind is no more). Use it for the second, not just to feel normal.
