Lie down as dead. Enraged in wrath, stay so. Or stare without moving an eyelash. Or suck something and become the sucking.
- Four doors, one hinge: withdraw the doer from the act. Any one alone suffices; choose the one that fits.
- Lie as dead — be a corpse: no movement of body or eyes, no cheating even if a mosquito lands; then feel what remains. (At 14-15 Raman Maharshi felt absolute certainty death had come, gave up all resistance and lay unmoving; the body stiffened and ‘died’ while he went on knowing — the deathless witness was revealed, and he left home a different man.) If it does not bring realization now, the effort is never wasted: it is sown as a seed that ripens into a later ‘spontaneous’ awakening — nothing spontaneous is causeless.
- Stay in the emotion — emotion needs MOTION in the body to live (‘e-motion’ moves the body). When wrath, fear, sorrow, or anxiety rise, stay fixed and dead: do not act it out, do not suppress it, simply stay. Denied the movement, it exhausts itself and dissolves within minutes, and you come out its master.
- Stare without moving an eyelash — fix the eyes unblinking; the lids soon refuse to move, you become fixed at the third eye, thought ceases, and you become pure staring consciousness. Three minutes feels like three years. (Meher Baba did this for years, lying staring at the ceiling, and fell so silent inside that a famed mind-reader could read nothing — ‘this man is absolutely vacant.’)
- Become the sucking — sucking is the first act of life (the newborn’s cry is its first attempt to suck air; the mother’s breast was the first contact with the universe, hence its lasting magnetic pull). Forget the object (cigarette, cold water, an imagined breast) and forget yourself; become only the process — no sucker, no sucked, only sucking. It regresses you to first-day innocence. (One man Osho gave it to: imagining a breast, sucking; within three months the outer gesture stilled and inner sucking ran all day; a sweet nectar began flowing from the crown to the tongue; three months more and all desire dropped — ‘I do not want anything, not even God, not even liberation. Everything is okay as it is.’)
